What do you do to keep your rings looking new?

December 10th, 2009

The first step is prevention. If you let your Tiffany inspired rings sit in a jewelry box for a long time without cleaning then they’re going to be severely tarnished. You’ll be surprised when you take it out that all the sparkles of your lovely silver rings are gone and in its place are black soot-like metals that don’t look like they’re worth anything. Make sure you clean the rings before you store them for long periods of time. A simple act of brushing them with an old toothbrush using mild soap and a bit of baking soda, and rinsing and drying them thoroughly will make sure no sweat or chemicals are left on the rings that can cause tarnishing.

Everyday care is necessary to keep your Tiffany inspired rings looking nice and new. Make sure you take them off when handling chemicals, hair sprays, bleach, strong detergent, kerosene and other household chemicals as these are known to discolor silver. If you know you are to handle chemicals take your rings off. In fact you have no business looking like a fashionista while cleaning out the oven or doing the laundry manually. In the event that you forgot and inadvertently exposed your silver rings to chemicals, immediately rinse them and brush them with a bit of toothpaste. Brands that contain baking soda are perfect for this task.
